Apple's Cougar, Lynx, Leopard and Tiger

According to Microsoft Watch the likely code names for the next Mac OS X are Cougar, Lynx, Leopard or Tiger. These are the names field as the U.S. patent office. I wonder why the Microsoft Watch site is interested in these. I would expect them to come up with the next Windows code names. I can coem up with some names for win 2004, 2005 and 2006: Bull, Cow and Dik-bil.
