Open Source SOA

August 30, 2005 | Comments (0)

Today I understood that Sonic Software would open its ESB to the Open Source community. At the same time I saw a number of messages about a new project under the Apache umbrella: Synapse — A Web service Mediation Framework. This project implements the patterns that are often called Enterprise Service Bus or Broker.

The coincidence is that this project is the project supported by Sonic. Dave Chappell is one of the committers of the project. The code base of Synapse however is not donated by Sonic but by Infravio’s X-Broker. Other members of the project are Blue Titan, Iona and WSO2.

The question now is how soon apache can deliver a product based on these sources. Everyone knows how long it took to get Tomcat of the ground after Apache got the sources from Sun.
