Nikon D200 and Sony Sensor

September 10, 2005 | Comments (0)
Sony DSC-R1 APS-C CMOS Sensor (12kb)

Now Sony has announced the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-R1 with a professional 10.8 mpix APS-C sized sensor, everyone in ‘Nikon land’ wonders if this is the supposed sensor in the Nikon D200. Especially because this sensor is the first large format sensor to provide full-time live preview and the Nikon D200 is supposed to have one single unique feature first presented on a DSLR — so could it be live preview!?

Well, I thing it might be similar — and probably be a Sony sensor — but it won’t be this sensor. The reason is its size. This sensor measures 21.5 x 14.4 mm and the Sensor in all other Nikons is 23.7 x 15.7 mm. The R1-sensor would give Nikon a crop factor of 1.65. As we said before, there will be one unique feature on the Nikon D200 — I guess it won’t be the introduction of another crop factor!
