Windows 1.0.1 screenshot (25kb)

This weekend, Windows is 20 years old. As released in 1985 probably noone really used it. First version I saw was 2.0. It was released for free with new PCs. Fun to look at; no fun to use…

First version I saw -- and used -- was version 0.99c. I worked for the Computerland store that sold the first actual IBM PC to the editor of "Creative Computing" magazine. Somehow, we managed to get some pre-release copies.

It was awful. And, there was no software.
